Enneagram 1
Ones fear being “bad people,” morally flawed, or otherwise seen as imperfect. They cope with this fear by being rigidly disciplined and very hard on themselves (and often, those around them, too). Core Motivation: Ones strive to be good and honorable - and to live a life with purpose.
Enneagram 2
Twos have a basic fear of being unwanted or unloved by those around them. A Type 2 may believe, consciously or subconsciously, that love is only gained and earned by serving others.
Enneagram 3
Threes fear being insignificant or a failure. To cope with this fear, they look for ways to win in life, reassuring themselves that they are valuable. Core Motivation: Type Threes are motivated by a need for attention and admiration. They strive to be successful and significant to avoid feeling worthless.
Enneagram 4
Type 4s fear being ordinary, unimportant, or unnoticed. They worry that they lack a unique identity or significance. Basic Desire: They desire to be authentic, to express their individuality, and to be seen as special or unique.
Enneagram 5
Feeling helpless is Five's worst fear. They are so sensitive that they are not “enough” to meet the demands of the world, so they prefer to withdraw and act indifferent. This aloofness creates distance between themselves and people, a distance which is hard to bridge.
Enneagram 6
losing their personal support and stability. They usually crave predictable, safe environments. Sixes tend to have an “expect the worst, hope for the best,” mentality. They may express this fear by overthinking decision-making.
Enneagram 7
Sevens fear getting stuck in a rut and missing out on the good life. They cope with this fear by constantly seeking out exciting, novel, and fun experiences. Core Motivations: More than anything, Sevens want to avoid feeling bored, sad or uninspired.
Enneagram 8
Eights fear being vulnerable and powerless more than anything, and cope with this fear by always being strong and in control. Core Motivations: Eights are motivated by their desire to be independent and in control. They resist appearing or feeling weak and reject any authority that restricts them.
Enneagram 9
The basic fear of the Type 9 is that they may lose or be separated from others. They may attempt to prevent this by remaining peaceful and avoiding conflict, potentially adapting to others preferences, rather than stating their own.
